TAC Cup Girls

The new-look TAC Cup Girls Northern Knights Girls team kicked off their season at Holm Park Reserve against the Dandenong Stingrays.  Newly appointed Head Coach, Marcus Abney-Hastings selected a nice balance of experienced and new talent with Captain Madeline Brancatisano to leading the team out as Captain for 2018.

Crowds waited with baited breath, as the rolling months of a long, hot preseason all came down to this. Knights fans weren’t disappointed and didn’t have to wait long. Experienced forward, Alex Pronesti snapped a beauty on the run from what seemed like an impossible angle in the third minute of the opening quarter.

The first half of the game saw back and forth run and carry passages of play that showed great chain handballs and tidy kicks. Knights, Nell Morris-Dalton dominated in the ruck contests and proved handy in front of goal.

Ashleigh Snow, off halfback, read the play well and linked up with silky midfielder Abigail Bennett who was able to use her pace to outwit the opposition at times.

Tall position players, Gabrielle Newton and Alyssa Bannan brought excitement to the contest. Newton worked her magic in the ruck and Bannan took some fantastic contested marks and chased the ball hard to finish with four goals.

The Knights will take plenty away from their convincing Round 1 win and should build into next week, where they’ll take on the reigning premiers Calder Cannons at RAMS Arena.
