The Northern Knights would like to officially announce Rebecca Privitelli as the club’s inaugural Head Coach of the Girls Squad.
Privitelli, 21, joins the Northern Knights after a storied playing football career that is continuing in 2017 after being drafted last week to the Carlton Football Club for the inaugural season of the AFL Womens.
“The thing I enjoy most about coaching is inspiring people to reach their goals or a level they didn’t think was possible” Privitelli said.
As a junior footballer, Privitelli is one of Victoria’s most decorated female footballers. A Victorian state representative twice at both U16 & U18 level, she went from strength to strength and made the 2013 All-Australian Squad.
Graduating to senior football, Privitelli began her career with VFL Womens powerhouse Darebin Falcons, winning three premierships before making the switch in 2016 to join the East Burwood Devils.
Privitelli’s coaching resume is equally as impressive. The long list of roles includes being an Assistant coach of the Calder Cannons, Co-Head Coach of the Victorian U16 State Girls Team, Head Coach of the YJFL Youth Girls Summer Program, Coach at Loyola College and Assistant Coach of the All Nationals U15 Girls Team is outstanding for someone of her age.
“I don’t just want to be a coach for these girls, I want to be a mentor for them and not just help them improve their footy, but play a role in helping them become good people as well.”
Talent Manager Rhy Gieschen expressed his satisfaction at Privitelli’s appointment.
“Bec is an outstanding acquisition for our girls football program. As someone who has been through the system and knows what is required to get yourself to the level to be drafted into the AFL Women’s competition she will be a great role-model for the girls coming through our program.” Gieschen commented.
“Bec has great experience coaching in the Calder program under a quality coach Damien Keeping. Damien will continue to work with Bec in a mentor role. We will also announce our squad coaches for the girls program shortly and are really pleased to have some experienced coaches around to support Bec.”
The Northern Knights’ Towards Zero Girls Squad and Girls’ Development Squad officially kick off with an Induction Night at Preston City Oval on Tuesday 8th November, with the first training session the following week.
