Girls Squads

As announced earlier in the season, the Northern Knights will be running two Girls Academies over the 2016/17 pre-season period.

Both programs will run over the pre-season period and will be held on Tuesday nights.

The TAC Squad will be for girls aged 16 to 18 (born in 2001 to 1999). Similarly to the TAC Cup squad in the boys program, the aim of the TAC squad will be to prepare the players physically and professionally to play the highest level of football once they have graduated the program, whether it be AFL, VFL Women’s or Local football.

The TAC Squad will commence pre-Christmas and finish in March with matches against other TAC Regions.

The Development Squad will be for girls aged 14 and 15 (born in 2003 and 2002). The aim of the Development Squad will be for girls to progress their football skills and understanding so that they give themselves the best possible opportunity to be selected for the TAC squad when they graduate from the Development Squad. The focus will be on skill development.

The development squad will run in the new year after the Christmas holidays and will allow those girls selected to commence their training after our program finishes with the representative squads across the NFL and YJFL if selected.

Player Selection Process

In the coming weeks we will announce our process for selecting participants for our squad.

As we previously had some girls who made the final squad for the Calder Cannons youth girls program last year that fall into our region all girls who fully completed the Calder program will automatically be invited into the Northern Knights programs.

We will work through the invitations for the remainder of our squads based on representative and local football form, talent ID throughout the year and coach feedback. Invitations will be distributed in the coming weeks and an induction night with all information for those invited on the program will be discussed.
