The Northern Knights have gone down to the Calder Cannons by 17 points at RAMS Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The Cannons used a six goal to zero final term to run away with the victory and give the Knights their fourth loss of the season.

In a first half which saw a number of lead changes, the Knights courtesy of two goals from Patrick Howe took a one-point lead into the half time break.

Coach Justin Wenke asked for a big third term from his players and they delivered just that.

Jamison Shea, who made his return from VFL football played a starring role in the third kicking three goals for the quarter. Ethan Penrith and Lane Sinclair both added goals and the Knights took an 18-point lead into the final change.

“The boys played an outstanding third quarter”, Wenke said.

“We asked for them to step and take charge and we really did that which was pleasing to see them stand up like that.”

The fourth quarter was a completely different story, the Cannons piled on six goals three to three behinds in the last term which left the coach quite disappointed.

“That’s the second time that has happened this year, were we have been run off the park in the last quarter on a big ground. That’s clearly something we need to work on.”

“We had similar inside 50 numbers to them in the last quarter but missed some easy shots and they went straight down and kicked goal after goal.”

“Marcus [Lentini] was terrific on his return, for three quarters he was almost one of the best on ground. Harrison [Grace] didn’t get much of the footy but when he did he did plenty with it.”

The Knights will have the weekend off again this week as a result of the Development Weekend. Coming back from the bye the Knights will play the Oakleigh Chargers at Preston City Oval.
