The Northern Knights have gone down by 47 points to the Gippsland Power on Saturday afternoon at Preston City Oval.
The Knights were never really in the hunt, trailing by 20 points at quarter time with the Power extending their lead at each break.
Coach Andrew Shakespeare says he didn’t expect such a poor effort today with the fourth quarter being the only quarter the Knights showed what they could do.
“[It was] a very disappointing day, in terms of our effort and output, we came in to today expecting to be far more competitive” he said.
“Our ball use was really poor today, some of our passages of play were exciting to begin with but then we just couldn’t hit targets.”
“[We] Had some really good contributors but it wasn’t until the last quarter that we saw our intent to match Gippsland, who we have to congratulate on what they brought to the table today.”
On a poor day there was still a few players that really stood up with some players also playing in different positions on the ground.
“Lachie Murphy (30 disposals, 6 marks) as captain today, really stood out, Max Dreher (27 disposals) down back really tried hard, his attack on the footy in defence was terrific.”
“Nick Coffield (25 disposals) went into the midfield in the last quarter and really showed us something and Patty Lipinski (23 disposals) continues to show why he got that national combine invitation because of his ability to win the ball and then make good decisions.”
Lachlan Wilson (34 disposals), Jake Bradley (21 disposals), Patrick Naish (13 disposals, 2 goals) and Jamison Shea (13 disposals, 2 goals) all put in strong showings.
The Knights have a chance to finish the year on a strong note as the play their last game of the season on Saturday at IKON Park against the Western Jets.
