The Eastern Ranges have used a four goal to zero final term to run away 18 point winners over the Northern Knights on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights led at every change but a poor last quarter ultimately lead to the loss. Whilst today was a disappointing result, Talent Manager Rhy Gieschen says he saw plenty of good signs against a strong opposition.
“Today we showed that we can take it up to the premier teams in the competition. We played 11 bottom age players today and for 3 quarters we executed our game plan extremely well.”
One of those bottom ages was Marcus Lentini who backed up his best on ground display last game with a better game this week. He had 31 disposals and 2 goals for the game.
“Marcus Lentini had a standout game in the midfield. It’s really good reward for effort after working extremely hard both at training and in the gym over the past few months.”
Another positive for the Knights was Captain Mason Blakey who had a terrific game as a general down back while also running off and setting up forward entries. He finished the with 27 disposals and 5 marks. Gieschen was full of praise for the Captain.
“Our captain Mason Blakey played his best game for the season. His ability to intercept and hold us together in crucial moments was really critical. He deserves all the credit he gets.”
Corey McKay again showed he is fast becoming one of the best small forwards in the TAC Cup, he kicked 3 incredible goals including two snaps for the boundary line as well as collecting 14 disposals. Gieschen says he is really pleased with what he is seeing from Corey.
“Corey McKay continued to show why he is one of the most dangerous small forwards in the TAC Cup. Since going forward he has shown really good forward craft and looked extremely dangerous.”
Oliver Stapleton also had one of best games for the club, playing more in the midfield to finish with 24 disposals. Matt Perry (30 disposals) and Mitch Andrews (24 disposals) also had strong games. While Ethan Penrith backed up his great performance last game with another 20 disposals and a heap of run off half back.
The Knights are at home again next week as they take on the Oakleigh Chargers at Preston City Oval on Sunday.
