Girls Squads

‘The Grandstand’ Function Room at Preston City Oval was buzzing on Thursday Night as the Northern Knights Inaugural TAC Cup Girls Squad had their jumper presentation for 2017 ahead of their first game this weekend.

Knights Girls Head Coach Rebecca Privitelli congratulated the squad of 36, marking the significance of the occasion.

“I hope the girls take this opportunity with both hands, they are the first Northern Knight’s Girls team, they should be proud of that, it’s something they can hold onto for the rest of their lives.” Privitelli said.

Additionally, the announcement of the leadership group was named with Montmorency’s Lily Brancastisano named as captain with Neve O’Connor and Sarah Sansonetti named vice-captains.

Privitelli says it was the girls’ quality character that stood out.

“The age didn’t concern me, these girls have shown how good they are as leaders and they have earned this role.”

The Knights had a special guest with Carlton AFL Women’s Vice Captain Madeline Keryk coming down to chat about her footballing life and giving advice to our girls.

She says this year with the AFL Women’s league has been incredible and says the girls should take inspiration for what has transpired this year.

“The first game was like nothing I’ve ever experienced, we expected maybe 10-15,000, but to have 25,000 and people getting locked out was incredible.”

“Hopefully these girls can get as much out of this tournament as they can and help take their next step in the footballing careers.

Now that the Pre-Season, the hard work begins as the squad travels to Learmonth to take on the Geelong Falcons on Saturday Morning.

The girls will play five games including their Round 4 clash against the Eastern Ranges at Preston City Oval which will be a double header with the TAC Cup team.
