Northern Knights TAC Cup Girls Best and Fairest winner Maddy Guerin has been drafted to the Melbourne Football Club with pick 14 in the 2017 AFLW Draft on Wednesday.
Northern Knights Talent Manager Rhy Gieschen feels Guerin has a lot to offer in the AFLW.
“Maddy is a really exciting prospect for Melbourne. She’s got explosive speed, wins contested ball and can break lines with her run and carry. I can see her playing Half Back, Wing or Midfield in 2018 in the AFLW and exciting the fans”. Gieschen said.
Guerin becomes the club’s first ever AFLW Draftee, after the Knights ran the program for the first time in the inaugural TAC Cup Girls competition earlier this year.
“It’s a really exciting and proud moment for our girls program. She’ll go down in history of the first Northern Knights Girl to ever be drafted.”
Guerin did her draft chances no harm at the AFLW combine finishing 4th in the 20 metre sprint, and was 9th in the Yo-Yo and Vertical Jump.
“She’s extremely diligent about her preparation, trains hard and is a real professional. She’ll leave no stone unturned in her AFL career”
Guerin was also named in the TAC Cup Team of the Year, following her outstanding performances in the competition and for Vic Metro at the National Championships.
