Knight Nik Cox has been selected to play in the U17 Australian team. This team will participate in a camp from Wednesday 24thuntil the game on Saturday 27thApril. The game will take place at Marvel Stadium against the New Zealand Hawks as a curtain raiser to the St Kilda vs Adelaide game.
Cox spoke of his eagerness to train and play in this prestigious team. “I am extremely excited for the camp and the game and truly honoured to be selected to play in such an incredible event on a ground I’ve always dreamed of playing on’”
With only 27 players being selected throughout Australia this is a credit to Cox’s improvement in his game over the last twelve months. Knights talent manager Rhy Gieschen praises Cox on his selection and growth as a player, “This is a fantastic opportunity for Nik. He has developed significantly over the last months.
“For a 198cm player, he runs extremely well, he has great movement and game awareness and kicks well both sides of his body.
“his best football will be when he continues to put on size and strength and fill out his frame, but the early signs are very positive”.
Cox has thanked Justin Wenke (Coach), Rhy Gieschen and the Northern Knights coaching staff for his improvement in the last year. “[They] have provided me with a foundation and environment that has helped me develop in my craft and knowledge of the game.
“I feel I have improved areas of my game such as my competiveness, physicality and contested work”
This will be a big and challenging week for the developing tall Nik Cox, however Gieschen is confident that he will acquit himself well.
“He is a hard working kid and will no doubt soak up everything that comes his way over the camp and the game”.
The game will be streamed live on AFL.com next Saturday the 27thof April
