The Northern Knights fresh from a draw, came out of the blocks firing. The Knights kicked the first four goals of the game and ended up victors by 31 points against the Bendigo Pioneers.
Northern kept Bendigo scoreless in the first quarter, and to only a minor score in the third term which helped them over the line (Knights 11.10.76 to Pioneers 7.3.45).
Captain Braedyn Gillard led from the front with his pressure on the ball carrier forcing Bendigo to turn it over, Gillard notched up seven tackles for the afternoon.
Ryan Gardner and Lachlan Potter provided run-and-carry off the half back-line and excitement up the coach’s box. Potter wasn’t afraid to take the game on involved in several plays running through the middle of the ground and bouncing the ball.
Josh D’Intinosante was again doing JD things, setting up goals whilst also getting himself on the scoreboard. JD set the standard for the forward line in the opening minutes of the game, intercepting Bendigo’s kick-out from full-back and kicking the first major.
James Lucente was another small-forward setting the game standard early, involved in several goals whilst also kicking three of his own.
The Knights get set for a big challenge against Murray Bushrangers on Saturday after the development weekend at Preston City Oval.
